Title: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: Training from the Source
Author: Khristine Annwn Page
Publisher: Peachpit Press
ISBN: 0-201-79929-4
Review:

I normally hand code my HTML with a text editor, but I’ve heard how using Dreamweaver MX can be a great time saver. Given that creating web pages is only one of my many job responsibilities, I decided to learn how to use the program. There are so many books written on the subject, but I felt that a good place to start would be with “Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: Training From the Source”.

This book is a good introduction to the program. It shows you, chapter by chapter, how to develop the “Lights of the Coast” website. This is a book for someone who will take the time to do each lesson; it’s not a quick “how to” book. I have to admit that every once in a while, I’d get a little lost, or something on a page I created didn’t look quite right. But this was always due to an error on my part (usually from trying to hurry through a lesson!), and not because of the training material.

I liked the layout of the book with the screen shots and step-by-step instructions per chapter. If I didn’t have time to complete a lesson in one sitting, it was easy to pick up from where I left off. I found lots of great information in the “notes” and “tips” in each chapter. Another plus is that the book includes a cd with all the lesson files and the completed files. This is great, so you can see how close (or far off) your pages end up.

Even though “Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: Training From the Source” isn’t presented as a “reference” book, I think it could be used that way as you work on creating your own web pages later on. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn Dreamweaver MX.
