Title: Advanced Macromedia ColdFusion MX Application Development
Author: Ben Forta, et al.
Publisher: Peachpit Press
ISBN: 0321127102
Review:

I have a new favorite ColdFusion book! With the release of CFMX (and CFMX 6.1), I’ve looked for explanations of implementing these features in my applications. Sure I was able to figure some neat things out from tutorials I found, but I didn’t really understand what I was doing all the time…there was a lot of magic going on. I also had a difficult time find much information on advanced topics like Java integration and a full treatment of CFCs—until I read this book.

The authors of this book of cover many advanced techniques and concepts in CFMX; some of the more interesting (at least for me) chapters revolved around XML, CFCs, and integrating Java into ColdFusion. I found the coverage of CFCs very well written and explained 95% of the questions I had when playing with them. I would have liked to see a bit more on developing Java for ColdFusion, but is the most complete coverage of the subject I’ve read to date.

Advanced Macromedia ColdFusion MX Application Development, however, is not for everyone. The authors assume a solid foundation in programming methodologies and ColdFusion. Definitely a great learning resource for intermediate level CF developers, and a good reference for advanced developers, though I think beginners should look for a bit friendlier introduction to CFMX as not to feel so overloaded.
