Title: designing web graphics.4
Author: Lynda Weinman
Publisher: New Riders
ISBN: 0735710791
Review:

When I requested to review “designing web graphics.4”, I was expecting the book would be a basic guide to setting up web compatible graphics. Plus, I was hoping to find a little inspiration for creating some interesting graphics.

This book was a pleasant surprise! There is so much great information here, beyond just the information on creating graphics. Ms. Weinman covers all aspects of designing a web page, from planning through publishing. There is even a section on career information.

The book is a very handy resource for information on all aspects of web design. Here is a list of just a few of the topics covered: aesthetics, planning projects, information architecture, navigation, HTML tags, transparent GIFS, CSS, animation, audio, JavaScript. The list of topics goes on and on! The information presented is helpful to designers at all levels. It’s a fantastic resource for those new to web design. Plus, with so much covered in the book, more experienced designers will easily find tips / ideas they can use.

Ms. Weinman’s writing style is friendly and fun. She makes reading the chapters enjoyable. I found the book hard to put down, quite unlike some other tech books, which can make for some dull reading!

There are plenty of examples in the book, including sample graphics, screen shots and code. Each topic provides several links to more information. These links alone make the book very valuable and time saving.

I’m keeping “designing web graphics.4” next to my pc, not as just a handy reference book, but as an essential reference book. I would recommend this book to anyone involved with web design and development.
