Review:
Programming ColdFusion MX, written by Amkor Technology's senior technology manager Rob Brooks-Bilson, is a great read for the beginning and experienced ColdFusion Developer.
Written in a clear, easy to read format, Brooks-Bilson opens the book by delving into the basics of application design; taking the user from the creation of a basic ColdFusion web-page on up to Flash Remoting.
Beginners will benefit from the many examples and diagrams that make it easy to understand the basics of CF application development and database design. Topics such as ColdFusion Basics, Database Basics and Maintaining Database Records (which covers inserting, updating and deleting records) also allow the user to practically jump right in and start creating CF forms.
Experienced users will appreciate the more advanced subjects that are covered such as "Working with the System Registry", "Interacting with COM, COBRA, and Java", and "Using the Coldfusion Scheduler". The latter is a pretty neat feature that allows templates to be scheduled to run automatically. However, the experienced user may generally find that the book is a little too introductory. Even so, it makes a good reference for various CF tags, along with providing interesting tips and tricks..
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone learning ColdFusion. But experienced to advanced developers may find it more useful as a reference book.
